Secured CPA funding and ownership by City of Boston, partially built
Location:
3134 Washington St. Roxbury
About this Project:
The Egleston Square Peace Garden, founded in 1998 by local youth and community members, transformed a vacant lot in Roxbury into a green space promoting peace and remembrance. Over the years, it has faced challenges, including neglect and safety concerns, but ongoing advocacy from local residents has resulted in significant victories, including receiving funding from Boston’s Community Preservation Committee in 2019 and securing the transfer of ownership to the City of Boston in August 2024. Egleston Square Main Streets worked with COGdesign first in 2011 and then again in 2017 on a community-led redesign to restore it as a vibrant, safe, and inclusive space for all.
